Tom Clancy (1947-2013) was an American novelist best known for his technically detailed espionage and military-science storylines set during and after the Cold War. His debut novel, The Hunt for Red October (1984), became an instant classic. Clancy created the Jack Ryan character, who appears in most of his novels and became one of the most iconic characters in thriller fiction. After his death, his legacy continues through co-authors who write in the "Ryanverse." Clancy's works have been adapted into films, video games, and TV series.
